Federal Funding Opportunities

  • SMART: SMART (Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation) is a two-stage program. Stage 1 grants are up to $2M and covers 18 months. These grants are open for any eligible entity to apply. Recipients of Stage 1 grants will be eligible for Stage 2 grants, which are up to $15M over 36 months.
  • ATTAIN: The ATTAIN (Advanced Transportation Technology and Innovation) program provides funding to deploy, install, and operate advanced transportation technologies to improve safety, mobility, efficiency, system performance, intermodal connectivity, and infrastructure return on investment.
  • Vehicle Technology Office Opportunities (VTO): The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) supports high impact projects that can significantly and swiftly advance market acceptance of next generation energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies. New funding opportunities are announced regularly.
  • FRA – RR Crossing Elimination Program: This program provides funding for highway-rail or pathway-rail grade crossing improvement projects that focus on improving the safety and mobility of people and goods.
  • FRA – CRISI Program: The CRISI (Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements) program funds projects that improve the safety, efficiency, and reliability of intercity passenger and freight rail.
  • Climate Pollution Reduction Grants – The Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) program provides $5B in grants to states, local governments, tribes, and territories to develop and implement ambitious plans for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other harmful air pollution.
