Needs

  • Limitations in remote access for real-time signal performance data (restricts troubleshooting in advance of field visit).
  • Existing communications is incongruent, non-existent, unreliable, or isolated.
  • Some connections are reliant on cellular or radio.
  • Some signal equipment is aging and in need of upgrades to support newer arterial traffic management tools.
  • Limited ability to monitor congestion levels and initiate traffic management mitigations that can improve travel time.
  • Signal cabinet controller not consistent (limited compatibility).

Scoping

  • Establish existing inventory for signal equipment (cellular, radio, fiber, etc.).
  • Establish location needs for real-time signal performance data.
  • Determine cohesive and compatible software system for the region.
  • Establish formal agreements in support of interoperable communications and systems.
  • Create an implementation plan for traffic signal equipment upgrades.
  • Define maintenance needs and schedules for preventive maintenance activities.
